If you are looking for a livestock or nanny dog, these are some of the best you will ever find. Both breeds have guarding traits though Pyrenees have traditionally been more independent where Newfies have worked closer with their humans. Pyrs are outstanding "varmint" dogs and these will chase off any large bird, even a crow that would take a chick, while Newfies have a more people oriented guarding instinct. You can see how mixing these two breeds would foster a combination of intelligence, independence and protectiveness against all types of threats as well as deep loyalty. We have been using this breed mix for 7 plus years with outstanding results. Most people who have picked up these puppies have taken them home as family pets to homes with children and other dogs. They socialize very well. We have kept many for ourselves and many friends have taken them for use in goat lots and poultry lots. They never loose an animal or fowl nor have we. This litter has 5 girls and 3 boys; 3 white with black spots, 2 black with white blazes and toes, 3 tawny with usually fade to ivory, but can never be sure. All have the double dew claw. They are adorable and friendly just like their parents with good temperaments, but very protective. They are being raised around chickens and small children so are well on their way to learning whatever lifestyle they will lead .
